Plainsboro Township General Information
Plainsboro Township is a community that has successfully made the transition from a rural farming enclave to a vibrant, diverse community of 21,000 people. The result of the Township's careful planning is a balance of open space and development, with over 50% of the Township permanently preserved as open space.
The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District is a highly-renowned school system (96% of the students go on to college, and the district has the 4th highest SAT scores in NJ). The school system is consistently ranked as one of the best in the State of New Jersey .
Plainsboro has varied housing opportunities that mark the area as a desirable home for a wide range of lifestyles. Housing includes single-family homes of various sizes, apartments, condos and town homes, senior housing and affordable housing, and historic/older homes and neighborhoods.
The Township is also a center for major corporate office and research facilities, including Merrill Lynch, Bristol-Myers Squibb, American Re-Insurance, Princeton University Plasma Research Physics Lab, FMC, Firmenich, GE Communications and Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals. The New Jersey Transit and Amtrak station in Princeton Junction is about 2-3 miles away.
Plainsboro Village , the original settlement in the Township with buildings dating from the 18th Century, is benefiting from controlled growth that is guided by the Plainsboro Village Area Master Plan. The Plan calls for the preservation of the Village's historic character while introducing appropriate and attractive commercial and residential development to help the Village become the center of community life. Development of the new Village Center mixed-use development is under way.
